Gold Medal Policing

Gold Medal Policing is the end product from the Police Mental Readiness Study—based on work with Olympic athlete. The work was made possible through a cooperative partnership between the University of Ottawa, Ottawa Police Service, City of Ottawa, Canadian Police Research Centre and Institute of Population Health.

Gold Medal Policing features a sample of over 1,000 quotes from exceptional frontline officers used in identifying and classifying a total of:

  • 69 police-specific success skills;
  • 48 major performance blocks that interfere with performance
  • 22 influential factors for optimal police performance.

It is the first time a deep and comprehensive understanding of specific readiness-skills has been exemplified through frontline police excellence. Gold Medal Policing is aimed at strengthening performance, productivity and morale in policing. It was nationally deemed as an indispensable addition to current work in recruitment, career development, e-learning, training and mentoring.
