Operational
Readiness Assessments
Situational
Awareness in Air Traffic Control
A
subsequent study illustrated the need for systematic mental
training in the high-stress, decision-making world of air traffic
control. The resulting mental readiness course was required
training for all air traffic controllers in Canada between 1992-2000.
By 1997, an Advanced Situational Awareness Program facilitated
the development of seasoned controllers, flight service specialists
and trainers in NAV Canada. This leading-edge perspective has
become the foundation for this discipline in operational readiness
assessment—most recently applied to successful policing
(i.e., Gold Medal Policing). |
