Claude Viau is
professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health
at the University of Montreal; from 1994 to 2002, he served as chairman
of the department. He was also senior risk management advisor of
the Healthy Environment and Consumer Safety Branch, Health Canada
from November 2004 to January 2006. In June 2006, he was
appointed holder of the Chair in Toxicological Risk Analysis and Management
at University of Montreal. Dr. Viau has conducted numerous analytic chemistry,
toxicology, and biomonitoring studies. His current research focuses
on biomonitoring of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposure and styrene
neurotoxicity. He received his MSc in analytic chemistry from the
University of Montreal and his DSc in industrial toxicology from the
Université de Louvain (Brussels). Dr. Viau is a member of
the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists Biomonitoring
Exposure Indices Committee, of the Comité d’experts spécialisés
sur les Valeurs limites d’exposition professionnelle of the Agence
française de sécurité sanitaire de l’environnement
et du travail, of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Canadian Health
Measures Survey and he is the chair of the Scientific Committee on Occupational
Toxicology of the International Commission on Occupational Health.
